Finance in Motion wins IJGlobal Award for Ukraine project

Frankfurt, 13 March 2026 – Finance in Motion has won the IJGlobal Frontier Market Award. The award was given for a solar project in Ukraine that will help secure energy supplies and promote the energy transition in the war-torn country. 

“Large parts of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have fallen victim to the hostilities of recent years. With our targeted investments in renewable energies, we are not only securing a reliable electricity supply, but also helping Ukraine to maintain its economic strength,” says Sylvia Wisniwski, CEO of Finance in Motion.

The solar project is being implemented by the Green for Growth Fund (GGF) managed by Finance in Motion, in collaboration with GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment Ukraine, a joint venture between GOLDBECK SOLAR Investment and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The plant is located in western Ukraine and covers around 40 hectares. In future, it is expected to generate more than 28,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year and save more than 12,000 tonnes of CO₂. The project not only secures electricity for households and businesses in Ukraine, but also creates orders along European value chains. “This shows that responsible investment is possible even in wartime conditions,” says Wisniwski.

Finance in Motion is thus one of the first private impact investors to channel substantial funds into the Ukrainian energy sector. The investments were made possible in part by funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) earmarked specifically for Ukraine. “Our investments aim to secure Ukraine’s energy supply and reduce external dependencies. Only a stable base of renewable energies can ensure long-term energy security and sustainable growth,” says Wisniwski. “The country was one of our most important partners even before the war. In this respect, the investment is one of a long series of successful projects – and we are delighted that this work has now been recognised with the IJGlobal Award.”
